Updated July 2026
Getting your ESA letter with My ESA MD is simple, and we've laid out every step below so you know exactly what to expect before you ever pick up the phone. Here's how it works, start to finish.
We used to offer a free consultation and only charged you if you qualified for and emotional support animal and ESA letter. As of 2026, we've simplified things into one flat fee that actually covers a lot more than it used to:
Your full consultation with a licensed physician
Your signed ESA letter, if you qualify
Any additional paperwork your landlord requires
Follow-up support with our doctor or staff for up to one full year after your visit
20% off our current pricing when you renew
In other words, $110 isn't just for the letter. It's a full year of having a doctor's office in your corner if anything comes up with your ESA and your housing.
Here is a more detailed explanation of the steps outlined above. When you call, a voice message means our counselors are currently on the phone with other patients. Leave a message and we will call you back within the hour to schedule your appointment with the doctor. If you call after the doctor's hours, we will schedule your consultation for the next day.
You will receive a phone call from the doctor at your scheduled appointment time. You will always speak directly to a doctor, and your consultation is confidential and private. If our doctor determines that you qualify as an ESA owner, they will transfer you back to your ESA counselor to complete the one-time $110 payment. If you do not qualify, you will receive a full refund, no questions asked.
After payment, your ESA letter will be written and promptly emailed to you on a secure email line. The letter explains your need for an ESA without disclosing personal details about your diagnosis, and it includes the name, signature, and professional license number of the doctor who evaluated you. Our procedure and letters follow federal regulations on Emotional Support Animals.
At the time of payment, we'll walk you through your responsibilities as an ESA owner and how to present your letter to landlords or housing providers. We're also here to answer any further questions that come up along the way, for up to a full year after your visit.
If you run into any difficulty with a landlord or leasing office that has concerns about your ESA, we will help. We'll provide you with the relevant federal housing regulations so you can share them directly, and in most cases that resolves any questions.
If the regulations alone don't resolve it, one of our doctors or staff members will speak with your landlord or leasing office directly, explain the federal regulations, and advocate on your behalf to the fullest extent of our ability.
If, after we've had the chance to advocate for you directly with your landlord, they still refuse to accept a properly issued letter, and there is documentation of that correspondence, you will receive a full refund. We do want to be upfront about one condition here: because this policy has been taken advantage of in the past by patients claiming a refusal that never actually happened, we're unable to issue a landlord-refusal refund without documented correspondence showing that our staff or doctor was given the chance to reach out to the landlord or leasing office first. We know that's a bit of a formality, but it protects the guarantee for everyone.
If you need to renew your ESA letter, returning patients receive 20% off our current pricing at the time of renewal. As with your original visit, your renewal consultation and letter are covered under the same one-time fee structure, plus another year of follow-up support.
If you know someone who could benefit from an ESA but might need a little help getting started, give us a call. There are thousands of senior citizens who would love the companionship of an ESA, and plenty of kids too.
Upon request, we can also send you two printed copies of your ESA letter for a small additional fee.
My ESA MD is a small, family-run telehealth practice. When you call, you're talking to real people who know this process inside and out, not a call center.
